Class has been going well, and I really enjoy getting to do that with the students. I especially enjoy lunch and chapel where I sit with a bunch of girls. It's a lot of fun, and generally usually I can make myself understood. We all picked out a lesson we wanted to do, and made the outline. Wed afternoon I worked on they a bunch because the thoughts were flowing, and it worked out, because I only have to memorize my memory verse for homework for class on Monday. And there aren't and classes Fridays, so I'll be able to help Rachel with any tasks she has here.
My lesson is on Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego on trust basically. The outline/written out party looks really good, but I just hope it goes smoothly when I try to do it in front of the class. To start out, I have a few participation games on trust so that will be fun! Today in class, my hard work on my lesson got a 20/20!! Yay! We also picked a name of God and made a 5 min presentation on what it's significance was to the believer and unbeliever. I chose Messiah, and told how man's sin from the beginning led to the sacrifice system, and how that all shows the Messiah that was to come. I like how my notes turned out, but it is very hard to speak cohesively with a translator! That was morning class, then we had break and then chapel. People play ping pong during the break, so I played again, and that was fun!
I like chapel, especially the singing part. Different people lead, and different people play different instruments. Next week, I might get a day. :-) :-) I sat with a bunch of girls, but had to get up to get some water, because I have this annoying cough. It's ok, as long as I have water. In the afternoon session, Mrs Wendy showed different visuals to use for different lessons, and then we went to the biblioteca to pick visuals for our lesson we present Tuesday. I like my lesson a lot, I hope it comes across interesting, because when you aren't going and going because of the translator, enthusiasm gets deminished.
Last night was Oansa, so I went early with Rachel and Alicia to help set up everything. We, Alicia and I, went to get a few things and a piñata for Cubbie's birthday party. We were going to eat at this restaurant, and Rachel gets a call that Mr and Mrs Campbell's car broke down on the way back from the airport an hour and a half away. So Rachel had to go rescue them. I definitely wanted to stay with Alicia and go to Oansa than go riding in a car for a few hours. Alicia doesn't speak much English at all, but we talked a bit. I think they forgot her food because it took forever to be brought out! The restaurant had a bakery too, so we got to choose a dessert. Alicia and I got flan, and Rachel got what looked like blueberry cheesecake, but with a other type of fruit. It was fun to be able to be with her, and she is a really sweet, helpful, and thoughtful girl!
A lot of the seminary students help with Oansa! I hung around Milka, a girl in my class, in the Sparks part. She was helping the cutest little boy learn John 3:16. Since it was my first Oansa, and Rachel wasn't there, I observed mostly, which is fine with me. Games looked like a whole lot of fun!! They took out the wooden benches used for sun am service, and the Oansa circle is color coated taped to the floor. When the game begins, everyone is shouting their team color, red, green, yellow, or blue. Next comes lesson. I think a bunch of ages were in that together. One guy from the seminary taught, and then we had a visit from Zacharias and Elisabeth. (Who was Milka holding baby "Juan" aka Gabriella) you could tell the kids thought that was pretty fun! I walled back with a group of about 15 or so. It was great! Can't wait till next week! (unneeded aside...The stars here are sooo beautiful at night.)
Lunch today was with a bunch of "gringos" at the Campbell's house. Everything was delicious and it was fun getting to know them a bit better, and have wonderful food! Including chocolate chip cookies... Those mountains in the picture are all around the seminary property. It's very pretty!
I got some stuff done at the house, and then waked over to the chapel to play some piano. Earlier, Mrs Cassandra asked if I wanted to play for church tonight. Yes, Thursday. Oansa is Wednesday, and they have a mid week service Thursday. I said yes!!! She gave me the songs which included 2 well known, one kinda ish known in the US, and one I've only heard here, bit have heard it multiple times already. I practiced there for a bit. The piano has personality... It's old, and it sounds good for how old it is, but there isn't a petal (which is major for me at least), and more than a bit out of tune. While I was playing, Sonya (her husband is 4th year at seminary) came in with her piano books. She came over the first night I was here, and we talked and got to know each other a bit then. I heard her play and it was so much fun! She is going to get a copy of a song for me, and I'm getting one for her. (I needed a copy of the Peruvian happy birthday)
I walked to church with Racquel and Roxana, who is my desk buddy. They are so sweet! Mrs Cassandra played 2 songs, and then I played offertory and 4 more. I played offertory and 1, then Marcos read something. (same as picture below. Different people lead in chapel and church, but tonight it was him. He speaks really good English, but that didn't help much tonight) On the first song, there were more verses on the screen, so I kept playing, but soon find a way to stop when no one was singing... I thought it was his fault, but later realized it was mine. It's all good though :-) like I said, I have a cough, and I was trying really hard not to go into a coughing fit. I lasted through prayer requests and prayer, which I could partly understand, and the last song. I sat next to Roxana for the message. I ended up sitting in the back later because I went out because of my cough. Moral of the story... Don't forget your water!!! Because you can't get a drink anywhere. At the end Racquel was like "you got to go up and play" and I was like... "I'm in the back, I'm coughing, I don't know exactly what I'm supposed to do, and I don't even know that song very well". But I did, and the intro was atrocious but the rest went well. It's done, and there is only one way to learn. By trying. It's all good though, and I'll see if I can do sun PM or something. I think it works be fun to do a duet type thing with Racquel. She plays right hand and I play left. That would be tons of fun. Racquel is very sweet!
After Oansa. Left to right...Heidi, holding Gabriella, Isabel, Racquel, and me.
